I had never felt as complete in my entire life as I did right then. It was hard for me to think about going back to the pack because of the danger that lurked within Dark Moon’s borders. However, I would keep her safe one way or another. I would destroy anyone who tried to harm her. The good news was that Dante, a guy named Chris, and a Light Fae named Pylorna would be there to help. Dante’s gift let him see what the eyes could not and would be the best option to sniffing out our traitors.

I said without turning. She must’ve sensed the tension because she didn’t argue. The bounty hunter took another step back, slow and controlled. “You’re not worth this trouble. That bounty? Doubt it’ll cover my medical bill.” “Then leave.” She opened the door and slipped out without another word. I locked it again with shaking fingers, then turned to Mira. She stared at me, dazed. “That was a bounty hunter?” “Yeah.” “For you?” “Guess I’m famous now.” Mira sat up slowly, wincing.

He groaned, dazed, half-conscious. “Why are you here?” I asked, voice low, lethal. “Who are you hunting?” He spat blood. “The girl... she’s...she’s from the northern bloodline. There’s a bounty. We were just...just trying to get paid.” I didn’t flinch. “You tried to kidnap a child. You’re not getting paid. You’re getting buried.” I dropped him with a final kick to the skull and turned back to the girl, crouching gently.

But for a devilishly long time that made my heart stop momentarily. “He touched me. Everywhere. For the first time in my life I was… touched like that, so passionately, so desperately and it was scary.” I gulped, observing his horror-stricken realization that disturbed my whole being. I wonder how long had locked his eyes on me. Yet, for my own consolation, I asked, “Was it you?” Only the Hunter was capable of reaching its target silently without leaving a trace or getting caught. There couldn’t be anyone else. “You had a 1 billion bounty on your head.” He mumbled, holding the hem of his shirt, pressing his teeth together in desperation.

I waited for a minute but when I realized he might be occupied for a long time, I turned to return to my room but stopped, alarmed by the figure blocking my path. A bounty hunter. My heart skipped a beat. Shit. I needed to have a serious word with my mate about the defences in his own bloody territory. The male wore animal skin that was characteristic of bounty hunters but everything else about him was unsettling, from his charred lips to his bad left eye that swivelled sickeningly in its socket. “Renshaw, aye?” He said then grinned, revealing blackened, broken teeth. “How the hell did you get in here?” I backed away, readying myself to run.

SOFIA'S POV "Two thousand four hundred and fifty... two thousand five hundred," I mumbled, counting the damp bills for the second time to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.
