To find out what they knew, they couldn’t tell a human cop. “We’re in luck with this missing persons’ case. The trail hasn’t ended at the edge of the park, like the others. Which means they’re missing hikers, not missing persons. We’re closing in on them. Hopefully, we’ll have them before nightfall.” Alex looked up from the satellite radio he’d just received a check in on from one team of searchers. “Not missing like the others. Well, I guess that’s better than adding numbers to the list. No such luck on finding any clues about where these other missing persons are while they were out there?” Paul had to ask, or he’d be failing at his job.

I honestly don’t want to know the gory details. “There have been more girls that have gone missing in the last week.” Mike told us. “Fuck, from where?” Jayson asked. “Several locations. There were a few from your college but again they weren’t taken from campus. They are girls that no one will miss. Several have been orphans that have aged out of their orphanages so no family to report them missing. Their friends have been the ones to report them missing. There have also been a few guys that have disappeared as well.” Raul states.

I interrupted him, he needed to get to the point, I didn’t need a long winded backstory, there was too much at stake. “That’s just it, over the last month there has been an increase in missing persons but from what I’ve been told they haven’t got her yet,” He sounded as confused as I felt with that last statement. “What do you mean they haven’t got her yet?” I turned to face him, my voice a little higher than I’d hoped for but there was an unsettling feeling that had started to grow inside of me. “How can they promise something they don’t have?”

"That was at 5 AM. You haven't slept. And you look like you're about to tell me something that's going to change everything." Dimitri took the coffee cup, sat down heavily. "It's worse than we thought," he said quietly. Mike remained standing. Dimitri pulled out the tablet Marco had given him that morning, turned it so Mike could see. Started scrolling through the data. Missing persons statistics. The spike across five states. The age demographics....predominantly poor, marginalized, forgettable people. The government's non-response. Mike's expression darkened with each screen. "They're kidnapping people," Mike said.
