He continued to pull me further away from the hospital until we found a small park just close by. There was a blanket spread out over the grass under a huge tree with a bag on it. "Surprise," he said, "I know it's not much but I can't exactly take you anywhere far from the hospital considering your condition," he said sheepishly as we both sat down. "It's still perfect," I answered. "I really missed the Sun," I smiled. "Anything is seriously better than being stuck in that hospital room." Nick chuckled, "I thought you'd say something like that. Hence I made it even perfect by getting you this," he said and removed the whole Fallen boxset from the bag.

I sighed and mustered my strength to pick it up. It was a text from Marcus. "Where have you been hiding? I know I was a little harsh that day, but you should've calmed down by now. Stop with this tantrum, and apologize to Janae. We can act like nothing happened! Also, don't forget about our engagement ceremony tomorrow." My strength left me, and my phone fell to the floor after slipping from my hand. I'd almost forgotten Marcus and I were supposed to be getting engaged the following day. I'd once looked forward to this day more than anything in the world. Now, it was so close and yet so far.

Fear shattered me, ripped through muscle and bone, and down into the ground. I fell.

Hazel was startled and instinctively tried to grab onto something to maintain her balance. In fact, she did manage to grab onto something – the person next to her. She didn't fall down in the end. "Sorry," she said, letting go of the person. "It's okay." Just as she regained her balance, someone suddenly pushed her from behind, causing her to fall towards the champagne tower again. This time, the force was even stronger and she didn't even have time to react. She couldn't help but let out a small cry of fear.

Focus. Just focus. I straightened and kept moving. But the stairs ahead were steep. And dark. I carefully placed one foot down. Then the next. Then— My foot slid again. “Ahh!” This time I fell fully onto the steps. Pain shot lightly through my knee. I hissed quietly and pushed myself up. That’s one. I continued. Step. Step. Step— “Ah!” I slipped again. Second fall. This time my hand hit the stone. Not too hard.

I didn't have a room. "Skylar!" Hearing his voice had my heart racing with fear, I walked down the stairs to meet him in the hallway. There was a door under the stairs, probably to the basement which is where they made me sleep last time. My step-father stood there with the door open. Suddenly he shoved me and I slipped, falling down each step. Rolo barked and growled at him, earning a kick for himself before he too got locked in the basement with me. I swear I heard him lock it with a key.
