I threw myself on the fur placed on the ground, letting out a strangled sob. I wished Alex could understand me and see how much I cared for him—maybe not in the way he wanted me to, but I did. Inside the tent, I sat on the ground, feeling all my pent-up emotions crash over me in quick successions. I let the tears fall freely. I cried for Alex, for myself, for everything that had gone wrong in such a short period. Kai came into the tent quietly, almost cautiously. He stood by the door, watching me. I didn’t want him to see me cry. I sniffed back my tears, wiped away the rest, and tried to smile as I looked at him. But he saw right through my facade.

He sighed. Kai was still crying in his lap. "Kai here, look here." I clapped my hands to gain his attention. He is so busy with his little tantrum that I don't think he even noticed us. "Kai." I called him again and this time, he forced himself to look at me. His chubby cheeks were flushed red, so was the tip of his nose and his eye lashes were completely damp. I could see it even through the screen of the phone.
