A firm, steady pressure. Warm.
It startled me more than the conversation itself.
His thumb brushed just once, not suggestively, but reassuring. It was his way of saying, enough.
The others didn’t notice. Or if they did, they pretended not to.
He leaned slightly closer, his voice low, calm.
“Breathe,” he murmured. “Just follow my pattern and breathe.”
I turned my head just slightly, whispering, “What are you doing?”
He smiled faintly, brushing his lips near my ear, close enough for only me to hear.
