He didn’t miss the way Kimmy reached out to steady me when I shifted to stand, her hand hovering near my arm.
“Don’t,” he snapped, his voice sharp enough to cut. Kimmy’s hand recoiled as if burned, her eyes narrowing but her head bowing in submission. “She is a fully fledged Luna Wolf,” he said, his tone dripping with disdain. “She can get up herself.”
The weight of his command pressed down on me, and I straightened, forcing my legs to move despite the protest in my muscles. Slight pain shot through me, but I didn’t let it show. Not here. Not now. My pride wouldn’t let me.
