My love for anything on paper kicks in soon enough and I let myself get drawn into the pages. The book provides information starting from the beginning of a certain year and goes on detailing the events that took place in that year and the next ten before beginning the next chapter. Just then, a small head peeked through the suffocating smoke. “Madam, do you need any help?” someone asked timidly. I forced my eyes open and saw a young boy who was about the same age as my son. He was covered in ash and dirt, but his eyes shone brightly through the smoke. He was so small in size, yet he managed to muster the strength to help me up. Then, together, we slowly made our way outside. The path to the outside was incredibly challenging, and I felt like giving up several times.

As they dragged me through the palace halls, people stared, some whispered. “She wasn’t in the palace last night.” “She’s just coming in now.” “She must’ve tried to escape.” I kept my head down. When we reached the king’s chambers, Madam Hilda spoke first. “My lord, Ashley, was missing last night. She just returned now, looking like this.” Her voice was filled with anger. Everyone turned to me. I forced myself to speak. “I went for a walk… and… I fell asleep.” There was silence. Then I added, “When I woke up, my clothes… were gone.”
