I took it all in, giggling and happy. Klaus was standing beside me and he seemed just as pleased as I was. The only difference was that he wasn’t showing his emotions on his face. He still appeared stoic and nonchalant. One of Klaus’ soldiers held a limp Michael by his collar while he was made to watch his lifelong sweat go down the drain. He was quiet all through but his emotions were as bright as day. Tears streaked his face and his body trembled uncontrollably but he didn’t make a sound. He didn’t even gasp as his wealth- his office building and the adjoining warehouses- went down in flames.

“Berenice is here.” I’m certain Benny didn’t tell anyone about us. If she did, I wouldn’t be standing here, breathing and dreading seeing her again. I’d be six feet under, or worse, burning in the hellfire of his father or Klaus’ anger. “How is she?” The question was out of my lips before I realized it. Markus kept his eyes on Mikael, his large hand ready to catch the child as he slowly took a sitting position. Mikael is the little version of Klaus, green eyes and dark curls, and also inherited his grumpy mood. He started grunting when he couldn’t get a hold of the biggest owl dangling from the center of the overhead gym.

Well, because I was. I licked my lips. “No. I’m not okay. Not at all.” Unexpectedly, Kaelen swooped in and tugged me against his chest. He enveloped me in his leather and whiskey scent, and his strong arms, and I let the rest of the world fall away. “Here it is.” Beau handed the book to Claire. “What exactly are we looking for in a book about magical blood feuds?” Claire ignored him as she flipped through and scanned the pages.

I had to take my mind off of Damien. There was a lot in the book, but it was just as Klaus said, there is nothing on White Cliffs, not even a mention of a home. Well not so far anyway. But it was interesting to learn Aldous’s thought process. The detail that he goes into is fascinating and yet somehow, he omits a lot of information.

Klaus pointed to the corner of his office where he'd set up a small reading nook for days like this—which were becoming increasingly frequent. "Books. Reading. Silence. Those are your options." "You're no fun," Cassidy grumbled, but she wandered over to the corner and flopped into the beanbag chair with dramatic resignation. Klaus returned to his computer, trying to focus on the quarterly reports that needed his attention. But his mind kept drifting to the text exchange with Ambelyn, to the interview on Monday, to the way she'd looked standi

She wanted to cause him the same amount of pain as he had caused her when he killed her leader so she began to walk over to Micah and Kurt while the other Ginx still hovered over Joe and Lydia. "Micah, she's coming for us. What do we do? What do we do, man?" Kurt asked in a panic as she got closer. "Hold my machete," Micah replied and handed the weapon to Kurt. He took out the codex and flipped through the pages until he stopped at one of them. Micah raised his hands and began to read the contents of the magical book. "Sicut fumus dies ventorum. But he knew she had a fair share of problems handed to her as well. "And now the Elders of Cosmic Moon pack shall bless our future Alpha reciting the ancient chants as dictated by the Lunar Almanac" Mikkel was snapped out of his thoughts at Alpha Hesiod's proud booming voice. Great, the Lunar Almanac again. Mikkel thought bitterly. "As much as I appreciate history and anything ancient. That book is way outdated and filled with crap. I could personally attest to that since I read most of it." Megaara walked over to his with a glass of water and joined him by leaning against the wall to stare at the busy stage.

I took a deep breath to control my raging temper. Then, I went back to Mikael's bedroom. He was curled up on his side, on the bed. My eyes widened in alarm when I saw that he was shivering so hard. I got into bed and wrapped my arms around him after placing an extra blanket around us. I pressed a kiss to his jaw and rested my head against his hard chest. "Do you think she can help us for real?" I asked and he let out a shaky breath. "I don't know, Athena. I really don't know. She said she has a book which describes the realm of smoke and bones. But, I don't know what to believe" Mikael croaked. I genty patted his back and let out an exhale.
