They swarmed the Crowshrike, their cold fingers peeling flesh from bone. The leader screamed, dissolving into a cloud of feathers and blood. The girl's spirit snatched her doll from the water, her form solidifying. "You shouldn't have done that," she whispered. "Now they'll never stop."

She was braiding. Using her own spirit as the loom, she began to weave Malachi’s fading shadows and Astraeus’s volatile light into a single, unbreakable cord. She took the corruption—the jagged, hateful Void—and she buried it. She pushed it deep into the iron core of the mountains beneath her feet. The earth groaned. A massive fissure split the valley, and a wave of pure, revitalizing violet energy erupted from the crack, washing over the battlefield. The infected wolves collapsed, the purple light leaving their eyes as the Architect’s hold snapped.
