Gammas all over were already prepared for an attack; some of them were shifting into their wolf forms, others were readying their weapons and waiting for the rogues to storm the packhouse grounds. It didn’t take long for the first rogue to appear; he was in his wolf form and was followed by others also in their wolf forms. Some gammas were already working on getting the women and children to the packhouse by the time the rogues had arrived. My eyes were wide when I saw others running in our direction with guns and armor. “How did they get gear?” I asked. “Rogues aren’t allowed weapons and armor like that.” Gavin’s lips were pressed together as a snarl escaped his throat.

Dax and I stepped out onto the catwalk beside him. Marching in perfect, horrifying synchronization up the grated ramps toward our crashed transport were a dozen Null-Troopers. Up close, they were even more intimidating. They were eight feet tall, entirely encased in thick, light-absorbing matte-grey armor. They didn't have optical visors; their heads were just solid, sloped iron plates housing localized radar arrays. They carried massive rotary-kinetic cannons slung low on their hips. "No phase-shifts," Dax reminded the pack, his voice low and dead serious. "No energy shields. Kinetic force only. You hit them in the joints, and you don't stop hitting them until they stop moving."

The courtyard was a churning sea of violence. Kroll, the mountain, was a wrecking ball. He didn’t fight warriors; he broke formations. I saw Jax go down under a blow that dented his shoulder plate. Mira’s arrow sprouted from Kroll’s arm, and he just snarled and ripped it out. “Focus on the smaller one!” Kai barked, his voice raw, as he parried a rogue’s axe aimed for my head. “The big one is a distraction!” He meant Gren. The lean rogue was a phantom—a slicer of tendons and a killer of momentum. He’d already crippled two warriors, not killing them, just making them screams on the ground to demoralize the rest.

I must have been frozen in place til that moment because I am snapped back to reality as I rush forward seeing the others are already engaging with the rogues. I shift without thought and stand over her just as I watch her shift back to human form. I train my warriors hard and they are some of the most skilled but watching how efficiently the 3 warriors of the Guardian Pack are taking out the Rogues is astonishing. These rogues don’t look like the normal rogues that I have dealt with in the past. If possible they seem dirtier than normal and more savage with their eyes looking crazed and almost completely black. Within 5 minutes the rogues are either decapitated or missing their hearts.

"If you did, you would not be so confident right now. You'd be looking out that window, worrying." That caught Samir's attention, but he said nothing. Krona stammered perplexed on how this boy happened to appear from what seemed nowhere. “He scaled the bloody wall!” Gravland chimed in. Another two COG's attacked, both Drykator and Krona blocked with their shields, slashed with their swords and kicked their feet from under them, both COG stumbled, tripped and fell from the ledge. They were falling easier and slowing down, they were still determined but not as confident or fierce.
