Bella sat on the edge of the small bed in their cramped apartment, watching as her son, Aiden, babbled to himself, playing with his little hands and feet. His dark curls bounced with every giggle, and his bright, curious eyes sparkled as he discovered the world around him. Today was his first birthday—a milestone she had both looked forward to and dreaded.

I mumbled and got up slowly with his help. He pecked my lips before leaving the room and returned holding our baby. I smiled looking at Adi, who is holding him like a glass. “What is his name?” Adi asked, sitting beside me but little behind when I took him in my arms. “You tell me.” I mumbled caressing our baby’s cheek. “You are the one who searched for his name.” Adi said, placing his head on my shoulder still holding the baby even when I am holding him. “Ashur!” I mumbled smiling.

Lilia slowly lifted the newborn into view, still marked with traces of blood from the delivery. His small fists were clenched tightly near his chest, his face flushed and scrunched as he cried. The sight stole the air from Villion’s lungs. “Congratulations! It’s a baby boy!"

I have to check my account later. I'm lifted. Liam is carrying me newlywed style like he threatened before. We're inside his bathroom, all dark colors, high ceilings, and warm light. The shower is all glass, black marble, and silver faucets. This whole bathroom could fit my bedroom and bathroom and more. I don't know if it is me or the floor has a heating system under it. I wasn't really expecting it to be so warm. Also, I'm taken aback by the tender way he's looking at me.

Nim says as she hands over the baby to Sally who gently places him on my bare chest. I sob as I look down on this new little person, this future hope for the Galdrian people. Looking at Lazarus I see him frozen in awe of this life that he and I have created. He turns his eyes to mine and I see tears of joy filling his. He leans in and gives me a kiss and he lets go of my hand to touch his son for the first time. “He is beautiful.” I nod even as I know he’s not looking at me. I stroke the white, soft hair on top of my baby's head. “Welcome to the universe, Liam.” I say softly.

Just then Giovanni woke up and stood up listening to the crying of his babies. "A boy and a girl, brother," Blair said and Giovanni smiled. Newborn cries fill the room and the father bursts into tears of relief and joy. He turns his glossy eyes to his wife and in a voice that's almost broken he tells her they have a beautiful daughter and a son. Tiny fingers curl around Blair's pinky. She watches the newborn peer through brand new eyes at what must be such a strange world afterlife in the womb. Her legs kick in a tiny jagged motion, looking for that resistance they are used to, but finding nothing but air. She wonders if that's unsettling or relief, it must have been pretty cramped in there.
