Laughing Uncontrollably When Stressed Novels & Stories

I covered my mouth with my free hand, the laughter bubbling up uncontrollably, fueled by a strange mix of adrenaline, shock, and total frustration. Laziel reached out, placing a firm, stabilizing hand on my shoulder, "Rhea. What is funny? This isn't funny. This is a serious threat. That person knows you, they're telling you they've been watching you for a long time." But I couldn't stop. The soft laugh turned into a full-blown, slightly hysterical cackle. I threw my head back, tears pricking my eyes, "Oh, God." I finally managed, wiping a hand across my eyes, trying to catch my breath, "I just... I just can't believe it."

"If you didn't want any, you could have just said no. There's no need to get so dramatic." Before I knew it, I was gasping for air as I clutched my stomach, laughing so hard that no sound came out of me for a few moments. I could barely hear anything as the laughter escaped from me, and the pain in my sides became unbearable. "Stop it," Sol said as he poked my arm. "Stop it, you're hurting my feelings!" I waved my hand in front of me to get him to stop talking. Everything he said only heightened the hilarity of the situation, and I couldn't control my breathing.

His breathing, normally steady, took on a rhythmic pattern as he inhaled and exhaled with deliberate control, a tactic to regain composure. As the tension built within Johnny, he found himself resorting to physical actions in a bid to stifle the laughter. His hand instinctively moved towards his mouth, covering it briefly as if to imprison the laughter within. At times, his teeth clamped down on his lower lip, a physical manifestation of the internal struggle between holding back laughter and succumbing to the infectious mirth.

Maybe it was my system hitting it's breaking point. But I was glad. This probably made me seen like I was in control, right? My laughter continued for…I don't know. I even doubled over, not because I couldn't hold my laugh –partly– but because my chest hurt from overwhelming stress. By the time I got a hold of myself, my breath was coming out short and shallow, and my ribs were expanding and collapsing too quickly, like I was running even though I hadn’t moved an inch. “Y–you…” my voice cracked.

I gently touched my cheek. “I can’t believe people get scared of a pretty cute face like mine,” I whispered to myself, momentarily forgetting the previous night's drama, forgetting how I had physically shoved a terrified mistress back into my husband’s arms. “The only thing that brings me joy is me.” Knock. Knock. Knock. Three sharp, demanding raps shattered the quiet of the morning. My little smile faded instantly, wiped away by the tension tightening my shoulders.

I then started to laugh hard and looked at him. "Because~ It- hasn't come out yet," I said between laughs as I fell to the floor. "It's just recently in theaters," I said clutching my stomach as I laughed even harder. at this moment, I even had tears coming out of my eyes, from how hard I was laughing. "Well....." he said looking for words to defend himself, but couldn't find any.

Then he laughs. Not a polite chuckle. A full, head-thrown-back, shoulders-shaking, I-can’t-breathe laugh that echoes off the walls like a madman who just heard the best joke of his life. I sit there clutching my fake notes, smile frozen, brain buffering. His craziness is pretty serious.

The laughter was beyond me now, pulling me under like a wave. It tore through me, wild and uncontrollable, my body shaking as I clutched my chest. Wheezes slipped out between gasps for air. Fat tears began streaming down my cheeks, leaving hot, wet trails as I laughed and cried all at once. I tried to stop, tried to rein it in, but every attempt only made me laugh harder. My reflection blurred in the mirror as the tears thickened, but still I couldn't stop. "No, no, no, no, Tina..." I muttered between gulps of laughter, shaking my head violently. "This can't be happening..." The words came out broken, punctuated by giggles and sobs alike.

My body seemed to turn to stone until only the rhythm of my heart was felt. And he laughed after a few minutes. “I'm kidding, Freya. Relax, a little humor I think will make my stress go away.” And I'm relieved to hear that though somehow I'm also a little disappointed, as if I wish he and I could take a bath together for real. Shit! “You do? I mean, your stress went away a bit?” “Yeah, seeing your expression just now helped my stress go down.” And he flashed a smile with his damn good looks.
