I admit that the fact that Laura was absolutely beautiful added to the desire to spend some time talking to her. As I answered some basic questions, I let my eyes wander over her; I wasn't blatant, waiting until she would start writing to check her out. Laura was a little shorter than me, with gorgeous honey blond hair that she had up in a bun that was way too old for her and that I was already dying to see down. She was wearing a small pair of those librarian type glasses that screamed sexy professional behind which were a pair of huge baby blue eyes. The finishing touch on that flawless face was a pair of soft full lips that were very much like my own.

I grabbed a tea bag from the cupboard and started to make myself tea with the boiling water Claira made. I couldn’t wait for this pregnancy to be over so I could have coffee; not sure how I’m going to survive 8 more months of this. “Uh, yeah…” Laura said as she hurried to the coffee maker. “I have an interview at the library this morning,” she added. “Good luck,” Austin said, leaning back in his seat and watching her, a curious look in his eyes.

Lia sat across from Tyler’s mum, Miss Laura at a small table tucked between two tall bookshelves in the quiet bookstore. The place smelled faintly of old pages and cinnamon tea, and the morning light filtered gently through the front windows. Laura looked healthier than the last time Lia had seen her, almost glowing with regained strength. “Hey, Miss Laura,” Lia greeted softly. “Please, just call me Laura,” she replied with a gentle smile. Lia nodded, returning the smile. “How’s your health? I can see you’re a lot better now.”

Laura sat at her desk, her eyes glued to her computer screen as she typed away furiously. She was so engrossed in her work that she barely noticed when Melissa walked into her office."Hey, Laura," Melissa said, leaning against the door frame. "How's it going?" Laura looked up, slightly annoyed at the interruption. "Hey, Melissa. I'm kind of busy right now. What's up?" "I just wanted to talk to you for a minute," Melissa said, walking further into the room. "I wanted to ask you about Clifton."

“Then we need to be careful.” ‎ ‎A door slammed somewhere in the house, followed by the sharp sound of footsteps. A moment later, the library door swung open, and Luca stood in the doorway, his expression unreadable. ‎ ‎“Out,” he said, looking at Laura. ‎ ‎She glanced between us before pushing off the chair and nodding. “I’ll be in my room.” ‎ ‎Luca waited until she was gone before shutting the door. The air in the room shifted, heavy with unspoken words.

lilian said, pointing to herself. It wasn't surprising to Laura that she knew about her connection to Kneed. "I'm his mate!" Laura said, in defense. "Never!" Lillian thundered. "You will never be! I'll crush you before you get close to him. You will die a miserable death! You can never have him, as he belongs to me." She affirmed in a thunderous tone. Swiftly, she put her hands out and tightened them into fists. In the next second, Laura held onto her chest and started to cough out blood.

"Zephyr?" He looked back, eyebrows raised. "You still owe me an apology for walking in earlier." A slow grin spread across his face. "Do I? I thought the view was worth the intrusion." Before Laura could think of a comeback, he was gone, his laughter floating back down the hallway. --- The next morning, Laura found a note slipped under her door. Library. 10am. I have questions. —Z The Shadowfang library was unlike anything Laura had seen before. Books lined every wall from floor to ceiling, with rolling ladders to reach the highest shelves. Globes and star charts sat on polished tables, and comfortable reading nooks were tucked into corners.

For a moment she pressed both palms against her eyes, trying to block out the words she had just read. This was the part no one talked about. The humiliation. The judgment. The way strangers dissected your life like entertainment. Emma inhaled slowly. Then she placed the phone face down on the table. She would not read any more. ⸻ That afternoon, Laura arrived at the mansion. Her car stopped near the entrance. She stepped out wearing a soft cream dress, her expression carefully arranged into concern. A staff member guided her inside. “Mrs. Sterling is in the upstairs lounge.”
