My fingers tapped once on the desk before I opened it. The first page was the report. I read the lines slowly, my eyes moving from one word to another. Laura arrived in London. She was picked up by a woman. Stayed in a private residence. And had no direct contact with Lucas. I paused, and my jaw tightened, but not from anger. It was a quiet relief . My finger traced the line again, then, I let out a short breath through my nose. “No direct contact,” I repeated under my breath. I turned to the next page.

"I wish we had some good news, but there is nothing," Laura said sadly, her face dropping. "The books in this library go back thousands of years but we have found nothing that can help us." "Don't give up hope," Indianna said. "I'll give you a hand. I have nothing else to do."

I had danced here since I was seventeen and started serving drinks at fifteen; you could say my whole childhood was at The Cellar Door. I always thought it would be funny if someone who frequents the club recognized me. They'd call me Luna, but I wouldn't respond; they'd wonder what Luna the bombshell was doing in a coffee shop, with her hair tied in a bun, covered in a hair net, and huge nerd glasses on. I would introduce myself as Laura and tell him I didn't know any Luna. The man would apologize and still look at me with recognition, but he'd just look at it like one of those things that happen.

We’re in Sapphire Lake*, Alice said, though even her voice seemed a little shaky. She lifted her head, panting and looking out the window as dawn began to stretch gently across the sky, lightening it and bringing the new day. She couldn’t escape her memories as Laura any more than she could escape Alice. Laura would never be put to rest until she knew who killed her. It was the only way to free herself and actually live as Laurel. She had to go back. Her heart clenched with terror and Alice rumbled. *Trust our mate. * If only it was that easy.

she asked again, her brows pulling together in an almost cute pout. She moved to close the door, clearly uninterested in a conversation, but I slapped a hand against the frame, keeping it open. I met her gaze head-on. “I’m Laura, from Room 6B downstairs. I get that you love a good party, but other people are trying to sleep. Your music is too damn loud. Will you turn it down?” It was unnerving to be staring at someone who looked so much like me but wasn’t related in any way. Wasn’t there some old superstition about doppelgängers being a bad omen?

I ask her. Laura nods her head. She walks around the room, picking up pictures and small things from the floor. She walks over to a bookcase still standing in the corner of the room. "I want my father's books," she says. She pulls a few books from the shelf. The case begins to rattle and shake. "Laura, be careful; it could fall!" I yell at her. Laura does not listen. She keeps pulling books from the bookcase, crying as she pulls the books. She struggles to pull a colossal book down. It finally breaks free. The book hits the floor, and the bookcase begins to move.

Trying to calm my racing heart and the voices in my head. I knew the male voice was mine but who was the lady? Why did Laura picture trigger that memory? Who was Laura Isabella Knight?

Lily walked towards Laura who was sitting at the balcony while reading a book. "Lily? What do you mean by that? I'm not trying to do anything." Laura waved her book with a smile. "Don't pretend to be innocent Laura. I know that you are trying to take Scarlett's position away from her. She is their daughter and we are people that they helped! Stop being greedy!." Lily yelled in anger. Seeing that it was no use arguing with Lily any longer, Laura smirked and decided to come clean.

Laura walked to her small garden, listening to the chirping of birds and cicadas and smelling the fragrance of the flowers, which lifted her spirits and allowed her to forget her troubles for a while. Although Laura hated the entire Legoza family and what Kathy had done to her and her mother, she couldn't deny her inherently kind nature. Occasionally, in certain places, she would recall the fun times she had shared with Kathy when they were still sisters.

I was currently seated inside my brother's huge library trying to read a book. I loved reading a lot but this time around it wasn't just clicking so I closed the pages of the book I was reading and let out a frustrated groan. I left the library with the intention of starting a conversation with the other girl I've been seeing here, apparently she was Valerie's twin but I've not gotten the chance to talk to her during the three days I've been here.
