Bella Who would’ve thought that “us against the world” would quickly turn into “me against the world, and against the memory you have now lost”? It will be the biggest lie of mine if I say that none of this affects me, that I have faith in our love and that you will remember me in no time. But I would just keep on pretending, not until the negativity inside me melt away. By the time I was walking straight into your room, hospital corridors echoed with the hurried footsteps of anxious visitors and the hushed whispers of worried families. Amongst them, is me, and my heavy heart filled with anticipation.

His company, dragged down by its scandal-ridden CEO, had crumbled, its former glory long gone. Even across the bustling crowd, I could see his lips moving, as though trying to say something. But I had already turned away, stepping onto the plane without hesitation, leaving it all behind for good.

The map of Isla Menor was on the coffee table. The cartography book was beside it, open to the page about blank spaces. There were no dragons. There had never been dragons. There was just this — the ordinary remarkable thing of a life that had broken open and grown back truer than it was before. The market, the bookstore, and the barrel that functioned as a table. The plant has seven leaves. The man who drew maps. The woman who finished her sentence. The things worth keeping, kept. She had walked out of one life with her hands completely still.

Before I can even stop him, there he goes. "Omg is this a magic brush?" he exclaimes after erasing half of a page writing, leading himself to explore more. That's my this week's chemistry assignment, you idiot? "Holy hell, is this a magic globe where you can the see the world? Wait, isn't that Kyoto city of Japan? How coooooooooooool!" That's only for detecting non-bio creatures around the world, dummy. You can't see or spy on any human or animal with it, only inhuman beings can be seen after analysing the rays they radiate. "Wow, a secret room full of swords? Also behind a mirror? You really thought I won't find it? Hahaha."

All I heard was the muffled sounds of her crying. I listened quietly. When the airport announcement prompted passengers to board, I hung up on her. Then, I went to my contacts, where I blocked and deleted the number. With that, I grabbed my luggage and went to board the plane. Soon, the plane took off and broke through the clouds. When I watched the city fading into the distance into a tiny dot, I felt a wave of peace wash over me. (The End)

Not because it had been erased, but because I no longer bled from it every day. In the end, we found our way back to each other in winter. Snow was falling. She stood outside under the pale light, said nothing, and simply held out her hand. This time, I did not step back. The past did not disappear. It never could. But time had carried us far enough that the wounds no longer ruled my life. And for the first time, what waited ahead of me was not borrowed, conditional, or secondhand. It was mine.
