At some point, I laughed so hard I had to hold my stomach. Leo had told a story about getting stuck inside a bookstore’s revolving door because he refused to let go of an armful of discounted poetry books.
“You really did that?” I wheezed.
He held up a hand. “In my defense, there was Neruda in that pile. You don’t just drop Neruda.”
I laughed again, full and unguarded.
He watched me for a second, eyes soft. “You have a beautiful laugh, and you're also very beautiful too.”
