I managed to croak out, my throat dry, my voice raspy. But they didn’t respond right away. They just kept staring at me, their eyes wide with something I couldn’t quite identify. “Your... your eyes,” Leo finally whispered, his voice filled with awe and trepidation. My heart skipped a beat as I reached up to touch my face, trying to figure out what had them so stunned. But before I could even ask, a flash of something in the corner of my vision caught my attention. I turned my head slightly, catching a glimpse of my reflection in a nearby shard of broken glass.

I felt as if I were a planet being drawn into the orbit of a dying star. "We aren't ready for this, Elara." Leo’s voice was a low growl of protest. He stood behind me, his gear packed, his face set in a mask of grim determination that didn't quite hide the fear in his eyes. He had seen Kaelen's new form, and to him, it wasn't a savior—it was the ultimate predator.

Luke was more reserved, I could tell he was excited but he didn't want to show it, as for Karla she was happy but not as excited as Liam, she was still a little shy around Leo. I walk to the front door to find Leo and Zeo standing there but it's not Leo that catches my attention though, no it's the way Zoey and Zeo are staring at each other. Zoey is looking at him like she wants to murder him, while Zeo is staring at her like he wants to devour her in a good way not in a murder way. No! It can't be. “You look really beautiful tonight Lena.” Leo tells me as he steps in front of me blocking my view of Zeo and Zoey.

He could make a battlefield feel like a shared kitchen if he wanted, could turn tension into courtesy with nothing but his presence. Leo slipped in without announcing himself, camera strap crossing his chest, gaze already cataloging angles with the particular focus of someone who saw in frames. His eyes paused on the glass wall, then flicked to Celeste’s reflection, faint behind it, distorted slightly by the clean surface. He didn’t lift the camera. He didn’t need to. He absorbed everything anyway, storing it away for later consideration.

My mouth drops open while everyone starts teasing Rio. But the weirdest thing of all is when Leah next to him moves to look at his neck and stares at his bruises with utter confusion as if she didn’t know they were there. "Yes, Leah is extreme," Rio says with an absolutely uncomfortable laugh, looking down at the floor and avoiding Leah's eyes.

I yelled. Leo reacted instantly, throwing himself across the plush carpet just as a volley of heavy shock darts slammed into the wall where he had been standing a second before. I scrambled behind a heavy stone display table as a stream of laser fire scorched the air above my head. The heat was intense, singing the edges of my black jacket. "We can't destroy them all with one stunner!" Leo called out, firing another shot from behind a fallen chair. His beam bounced harmlessly off a droid’s reinforced front shield.

Liara replied calmly. "Didn't you hear 'RIGHT NOW'?" Leo asked arrogantly. "I know you're doing your duty, Beta Leo. But I'm also doing my job. I'm going to be a doctor, and I can't let any injured creature in pain." She replied calmly again, but her eyes glowed. Leo Gilbert gritted his teeth but didn't say anything next because he knew even her brother was around, and he just couldn't say anything to Liara, not when she was doing her job.

He came closer and closer until he slammed his right arm right over her head and gazed at her downwards ( yeah Leo is doing the famous Kabedon ) . Behind Leo, Lily peeked out, clutching a half-eaten pint of chocolate ice cream she had successfully negotiated from the kitchen staff. Leo's dark eyes narrowed as he looked from Liam, to Lucian, and then to Zara standing in the doorway with tears on her cheeks. His little jaw clenched, perfectly mimicking the stubborn pride of the billionaire kneeling on the floor. "If Liam says you are okay," Leo announced, lowering his baseball bat so the plastic tapped against the hardwood. He crossed his arms defensively. "Then I guess I don't have to hit you in the kneecaps. But I'm watching you, Mr. Sterling."
