She’d adore the wide array of books here, though I don’t think she’d like the constant threat of danger. The Librarian’s that roamed the restricted section were just another facet of dark magic. Their limbs were humanoid, but longer and skinnier than normal. Their heads held actual hair, but that only served to make them more horrifying. Greasy hair hanging low, past sunken faces with gaping, contorted mouths. A sickening crunch sounded, followed by small snaps and cracks. Every time this creature moved, it’s bones grinded and clattered together.

Well, what are you looking for? "Ah erm books about the creatures in this world?" I voiced out when suddenly my eyes glanced upon a particular book with a moving branches cover. It fascinated me so much that I almost touched it when the librarian grabs my hand. She hisses, "Those books are off limits." The librarian then narrows her gaze at me doubting my curiousity. She slithers away and extends her body to reach out for books and gave them to me saying, "Here's all the books containing all that you have to know. The primary creatures of our world."

It was a smell—the smell of jasmine and old paper. A figure stepped out from the shadows of the library. It wasn't a soldier. It was the Librarian from her visions. But this time, he looked solid. He looked real. “You are early, Faith Nightshade,” the Librarian said. The school is burning, Faith said. “I don't have time for riddles.”

From my emotions and feelings towards her, I was still like a reader reading the book with the b*tch butting into the story. I walk my way where I could find total silence, the library. There were no students around and only the librarian is there. I step inside and I was overwhelmed with silence, this is what I want, peace. I move my feet slowly, looking at the book, trying to grab a masterpiece. There were thick and thin books. I look at the story titles one-by-one. I went to the fantasy section. Chapter 5 Ezra “Where is he?!” I ask fuming with rage to the first individual I spot, the fear-struck Bronze Hunter points me in the direction of the library and I take off without a word of thanks. I reach the library and shove the double doors open with enough force to cause the solid oak to groan from the impact of hitting the wall. “What the fuck were you thinking?” I ask Ryker who is leisurely enjoying a drink while reading the inside of some blue binder. “Why the fuck is the name of that female on the raid application?!”

The grimoire turned out to be the largest book Cassandra had ever seen, with pages made of parchment illuminated with tracery, and it was open to a page thickly covered with elegant, intricate writing.

I asked, smiling. “He’s getting there,” Arthur said, tapping his temple. “He’s distracted by the new librarian, who may or may not be fencing stolen rare books through the annual book sale.” He winked. “It’s pure nonsense, of course. But it’s my nonsense.” This was our new, peaceful rhythm. His playful, fictional world existed alongside my quiet, real one. We were in our own orbits, content.

I was on a mission. The librarian stopped at the end of the long case of tombs. She wiggled her fingers as she read across the spines then hummed when she found the one she wanted. She pulled the spine gingerly and it fell into her hands. Although, it didn’t actually touch her hands. It floated above them in a haze of purple light. She saw my eyes go wide at the magiks and chuckled. “This tomb survived both the Enslavement and the Great War,” she said. “I’d be doing a terrible job if I let everyone’s grubby fingers all over it. The magiks around it preserve the book but still allow it to be read.”

“Maybe we’re looking in the wrong place. There has to be something—there’s always something.” A soft clearing of the throat startled us, and we turned to see the librarian standing nearby. He was an older man, his gray hair neatly combed, and his sharp eyes glinted with curiosity. “Luna,” he said, bowing slightly. “How can I assist you?” Fatima exchanged a glance with me before answering. “We’re looking for information about... creatures. Something that might explain what’s happening in the woods. Deformed humans, maybe monsters.” The librarian hummed thoughtfully, his fingers stroking his beard. “Perhaps you’re searching in the wrong direction,” he said after a moment.
