I didn't reach for a joke. For once.
"There's going to be an after," I said. "And in it you're going to be unbearable about being right, and Aldric's going to stand in doorways being quietly intense, and I'm going to carry the conversation like always. That's the after I'm planning on."
The corner of her mouth went up.
Aldric crouched in front of her, slow, and took her hand. He didn't talk for a moment.
