Lukas looked around the sofa and the hearth, taking in the impossible tableau of their lives.
They had started in a subterranean prison cell, two men stripped of everything, bound together by a desperate, half-mad conspiracy of survival. They had fled into the dark, carved a sanctuary out of an unmapped mountain valley, and built an invisible, trillion-dollar leviathan of wealth to buy their absolute freedom.
And now, wrapped in blankets and body heat, they were simply parents.
