The Book in the World The book was titled simply: The Healed Territory. Elara had not planned the title — it arrived when she was writing the twelfth chapter and she understood it was right because it was accurate. Not the healing process, not the governance methodology, not the theory. The territory after the healing. What it was to live there.

Etta asked, fearful of what she might hear next. "No. My aunt and uncle on my fathers side live with another pack across country and my mothers brother was also killed during the rebellion. Once Beta James became Alpha he took me in. He was my fathers most trusted advisor and friend, I had no reason to doubt that he would care for me." Annalise closed her eyes as she thought back to her childhood.

"Greetings…" "You don't believe me, do you? Take a look at this." Black White knew what Chase and his group were thinking. He grabbed something in the air, and a black and white book appeared in his hand. He placed it in front of Chase and the others. "What's this? Chase looked at the cover of the black and white book. The words 'Book of Life and Death' were printed on it. "The Book of Life and Death?!" He was surprised. Walter and Barry gulped. Was that really the Book of Life and Death?

A passage in the book had been underlined with pencil. It’s life that matters, nothing but life—the process of discovering, the everlasting and perpetual process, not the discovery itself, at all.

That's why I'm going to have a sit-down and see whether I want to deal or not. I wondered what it would be like, to focus on something else for once. To look forward to living when I'd been so hellbent on dying. Knowing that you'd lived past the day you thought you were going to be dead is an odd feeling. It doesn't feel so much like borrowed time but a rebirth.

She sat in the corner of her cell all day without sleep, murmuring to herself over and over that it was all her fault. "Zachary, I'm sorry… If there's a next life, I promise I'll make it up to you." Without thinking, I immediately responded, "That won't be necessary, Mom. I don't want to be your son in the next life." As if she could suddenly see me, Mom turned toward me and exclaimed, "Zachary, you came to visit me! I knew you couldn't bear to leave me." I was startled, but I tried speaking to her again.
