Her tone was a little too casual, so Damiano pressed.
“Last night, I kissed you, and you got a bit mad… And now, you’re not…”
Thea smiled faintly. Her gaze warmed, and under the heat of it, so did he.
“No,” she allowed slowly, “I’m not anymore.”
“Because…” he prompted when she didn’t elaborate.
She ran her tongue over her lips, then shrugged and met his gaze head-on.
“Because I only have one life,” she said quietly. “Because I must stop being afraid and just… be alive. Because I’m tired of hiding, of pretending…”
