I scream out her name, but the sound is carried away. I watch as she stands alone against the shadows. Despite no moon, she starts to glow, the brightness increasing till she is as bright as the moon herself. She uses her Alpha command with all her might and orders the shadows. "LEAVE THIS REALM. YOU WILL HAVE NO CLAIM HERE DURING MY REIGN, AS IT IS ALL UNDER THE PROTECTION OF MY LIGHT." The scream gets louder as the shadows start to panic. The wind is starting to die down, but they are forming a concentrated ball of darkness in the middle of the compound. Their screaming stops, and they start laughing with menace before speaking in whispers to us all.

It explodes out of me in a blinding wave of light, shooting through the clearing like a bolt of lightning. The shadows scream, their twisted forms disintegrating as the light engulfs them, burning away the dark magic that clings to them. I looked down at it, seeing this tiny little thing in it, something that shone in the lights coming from all around us. “A gift,” he answered, his voice low again. “If you would accept it.” It was a stone, a completely black stone, with a shiny surface that made it look like it contained stars.

The pack joined her, their combined energy bolstering the light. The shadow screamed again, its form weakening as the light grew brighter. The shadow let out one final, deafening scream before it dissolved into nothingness. The tree shuddered, its blackened bark cracking and crumbling away to reveal vibrant, glowing wood beneath.

I pulled it free—its glow, soft but growing, pushed back the heat. With a growl, I tore it open, letting the pure light magic flood my palm. The moment it touched air, it began to hum, sensing my desperation. Thanatos faltered for a heartbeat. “What’s that?” “A gift,” I said, and hurled it straight into the heart of his real form. The light struck him mid-chest. He staggered backward, gasping, then erupted. A deafening shriek tore through the flames, and his clones disintegrated one by one.
