Then a low laugh carried across the water. Lila stepped into the light from the far end of the dock. She wore black leather from throat to boots. The whip hung coiled at her hip. Her hair was pulled into a severe ponytail. Her eyes looked almost black in the harsh light. “You came,” Lila said. Her voice carried clearly across the distance. “Alone. How disappointing. I expected more fight from Dean Breed’s pet.” Jenna kept her voice even. “I came for my family. Let them go and take me instead.”

MARIA'S POV. The next morning came quickly. And for the first time in years, I slept like a child who had no reason to worry. I.was finally going to get my revenge on Allen.
