Lily demanded with a stern expression. “Okay, I make a Devil promise to you. If I will break it then, I will die because of the extreme pain in my heart,” stated Lucian and smiled. “I do not trust you,” Lily proclaimed. Lucian stood up the bed and went towards Lily which startled her. He put his index finger in between Lily’s brows and let her see a glimpse what happens when a Devil breaks the promise. After a few minutes, he put his finger down and said, “Now, you trust me, right?” Lucian asked for the confirmation, gazing into Lily’s eyes who gave a nod.

Lily extended her palm toward Benedict and continued asking, “Where’s my wood?” Benedict was speechless at her stubbornness. “I don’t have it anymore. I’ve used all of them,” he said simply. Lily could tell that he was lying from his reaction, “I don’t care! You’ve made a promise, and since you finished using them, you can start from scratch and plant them. Everyone should honor their promises, even if you’re a kid!”

Lily asked, her eyes widening with glee. "Of course, you are my best friend!" Lucas proudly said. "Yay!" Lily exclaimed before she and Lucas hugged each other. ### BACK TO PRESENT ### Lily's blue-colored eyes were staring blankly at the road. She did not know how long she had been in that state, thinking about her childhood days. She had completely forgotten about that promise. She was probably around seven or eight years old if she recalled it correctly. Yes, Lucas did promise to marry her innocently.

She squeezed his hands and whispered, “Blake, I never knew... I didn’t think anyone could care for me like this.” She took a deep breath and looked up at him, her eyes now filled with determination. “But if you’re really willing to protect me, then I won’t hold back. I’ll do whatever it takes to be with you, Blake. Just promise me one thing.” ‘What's that?” Blake asked. “Promise me that you’ll never treat me like a burden. I want to be your partner, not your responsibility,” Lily said firmly. Blake smiled, his eyes softening. “I promise, Lily. From now on, we're in this together.”

I then took a brief pause in what I was saying before giving her an angry look. Lily paid careful attention to every word that came out of my mouth before finally asking, "but what?" After that, she got on her knees in front of me and made a promise to me, saying, "I promise you, and I swear over my children that I will never betray you under any circumstances. I am willing to give up everything for you." Immediately, I had a favorable impression of the woman.

Lily interrupted. “Promise.” She endured the silence. Then she said, “Honestly, I’ll try.” It wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t reassuring. It was true. Dylan did not appear happy. But he nodded once. “Go,” he whispered. “Please don’t let Lena encircle you.” Lily headed to the exit door. Before she walked out, she stopped briefly. “They’re not here for the Firefly Pack,” she said. “They’re here for whatever cracks first.”

"Never. You're safe here. I promise." "My mom used to promise things too." The words hung in the air like ghosts. Maya knew exactly what Lily meant. How many times had she believed her ex-husband's promises? How many times had she confused apologies with change? "I know," Maya said softly. "And I know that promises might not mean much to you right now. So instead of promising, I'm going to show you. Every single day. You belong here, Lily. With me." Lily's eyes filled with tears. "What if I mess up? What if I'm in too much trouble?"

She looked at me with those eyes, Claire's eyes, Ethan's darkness, something entirely her own in the expression. Four years old and already building defences. Already trying to figure out how to keep the people she loved from disappearing. "I'm not going anywhere, Lily," I said. "Promise?" The word landed on me like something heavy, I held her gaze. "I'm not going anywhere right now. I'm here. Okay?" She looked at me for a long moment, deciding whether that was enough. Then she went back to stirring, and I went back to the pan, and the kitchen filled with the smell of butter and batter and I kept my breathing steady and even.

The little girl's eyes shone brightly, nodding her head. " Then if you want that to happen,you will have to let mommy and Daddy go alone. Only then can we make a little sibling." David added with a smile. " You promise?" Lily asked, sceptically. She knew her father was full of tricks, just like how he carried her back to her bed last night and blamed it on her for sleepwalking. She could not believe her father outrightly. What if this was another ploy to get rid of her? " I promise." David said.

“No, you listen to me. You’re not dying and you’re not getting married off. That’ll never happen and you’re definitely coming back here to me and to everyone else.” “How?” She asked That one word hit harder than everything else, because I didn’t have an answer, not yet. But I couldn’t let her see that. “I’ll figure it out.” “You promise?” She asked. I swallowed hard. “I promise Lily.” And for the first time since this started, the typing bubble disappeared and didn’t come back immediately. I stared at the screen, waiting, hoping and praying because this wasn’t just a conversation anymore. This wasn’t just worry, it was real and dangerous and suddenly, everything else didn’t matter.
