Lily threw the mask onto the dirty floor of the storage room.
I looked down at it, my chest heaving. The tears were hot on my cheeks, but I refused to let them see me break completely. I knelt down slowly, my hands trembling as I picked up the mask from the floor. I used the edge of my clean uniform sleeve to wipe the dust off the fabric.
As I lifted it back up to cover my face and secure the straps, Lily let out another loud, mocking laugh.
"Of course, go ahead and cover that ugly face of yours," Lily said, her voice dripping with disgust. "No one wants to look at you anyway."
