Cynthia instinctively accepted the glass pressed into her hands and gulped the water down greedily, finally easing the dryness in her throat.
Squinting slightly, she murmured, "Erica, where are we?"
No response.
She continued, "Well, forget it, it doesn't matter where we are. I just don't want to go home right now. If I stay there another minute, Lucien will probably come knocking again. He's a lunatic."
Still, there was no reply.
The hands supporting her tensed slightly. A strange feeling crept up her spine, making her uneasy. She instinctively lifted her head—and in an instant, her pupils constricted. The haziness in her vision vanished completely, replaced by sheer terror.
