Rowan halted, chain still humming in his hand, but for the first time he looked… cautious.
Dax exhaled once, like he’d been holding his breath since we met. “Good,” he murmured. “Again.”
Rowan’s smile returned, slower now. “There she is,” he said. “The ashbound.”
The priest behind him hissed. “Alpha, the tracker—”
Rowan lifted the chain, and the moon-silver links flashed. The ash wall shuddered like it had been struck. Pain ripped through my wrist again, brutal and bright.
