The One I Couldn’t Let Go
He called my name, the sound of it carried by the night breeze, drawn-out and lingering, like something he had repeated a thousand times before.
"I have all the patience in the world. No matter how you treat me, it doesn’t matter."

He sounded so calm and unwavering.
I stopped in my tracks, the little devil inside me, bold and defiant, stirring once more.
"Then carry me home."

His lips curled slightly, his expression soft under the pale arc of the moon.
