She gave me another kiss before sitting down. Maddie was at one end of the couch with one leg stretched across, almost reaching the far end, and the other bent with her knee sticking up in the air. Then I pressed play, and we started watching the movie in silence. My sister and I were usually pretty good about not chatting when we were watching a potentially good movie for the first time.

I promise. I swear on our friendship necklaces that I'll come by and see you next week, no matter what.”

She moves forward wrapping her arms around her mother briefly. After a moment Maryse grabs a hold of Maddie in a tight hug and she starts to sob. As they stand there for one moment in time, you see what is likely the only moment of vulnerability Maryse has ever shown.

Maddy and Adi had arrived. Adi was mid-conversation with Holly when he spotted Lacey. Immediately excusing himself, he walked over to her, stretching out his arms even before he reached where she stood. With a welcoming smile, Lacey let Adi hug her.
