One afternoon, as they sat on the porch swing, Nanny Mama Hazel, her eyes twinkling with amusement, announced, "Theo, I have a surprise for you!" Theo, his face alight with curiosity, leaned forward, his small hand reaching out to touch Nanny Mama Hazel's. "What is it, Nanny Mama Hazel?" Nanny Mama Hazel smiled, her voice a gentle melody. "I've been saving this for a special occasion. It's a book, a very special book." She reached into her bag and pulled out a beautifully illustrated book, its cover adorned with a picture of a firefly. Theo's eyes widened with delight.

Yet the girl in front of me had offered herself to the photographer without the slightest reservation. Every page was a slap across my face, loud enough to wake me from years of self-deception. I slowly set the album down, as if someone had drained every bit of strength from my body. When Julian pushed open the door, his mouth parted in surprise. A flicker of guilt crossed his eyes. After a few seconds of silence, I broke the suffocating stillness first. "Who is this girl?" My voice was terrifyingly calm. In the dim room, he did not notice that my entire body was shaking.

Nitro: Finally tearing off the net and throwing it to the side, I get up and look around. The OutCasts are gone. I'm all alone. I look at the hallway they disappear into and the room with the flash drive. "I have time," I think, switching canisters. "I'm not going to get beaten by a group of freaks." I rise my blaster and walk down the hallway. QuickShot: Peeking around a corner, I let out a sigh when I see an empty hallway.

I press my hand to him, trying to get him to stay still. “I can help,” I murmur, fumbling with the heavy book in my lap. He pauses, eyes darting to the old book. His gaze hardens in suspicion but then softens. He recognizes what it is. I flip frantically through the brittle pages. 39… 91… 180… Focus. My fingers finally find the right page and relief washes over me when I spot the illustrations. I place the book next to me and take the bag, searching for the right leaves stuffy stuff. I do not know what. At least the book has pictures in color.

I have to look. But the second I do, the air changes. My lungs seize. My heart lurches. He’s right there, just outside the halo of moonlight, inches from my side of the room. I can’t see his face fully, only the faintest contour of jaw, the tilt of his head. His breathing is slow, deliberate… watching. Waiting. My hands go clammy. My mouth dries. Every instinct screams at me: Do something. Run. Say something. Anything.

"You need a lot of manpower. Who knows if that escapee brings a few of his friends?" Terry couldn't argue with that and nodded her head. We all know she can handle it, but having Rex for extra protection just made us safer. I found a log and sat down. Effie and Lily sat beside me as the others tried to find a way to call for help. "Rex, honey," I call out to him. "What about Jo? She is still out there." Ares and Seth show up with a bunch of sticks and set up a bonfire in front of us.

When they ran towards the window to see what was going on, they met pitch darkness, which could obscure anyone's vision, even from seeing their own toes. "What do you think that was, Miss Milburn?" Patrilia asked, looking around him. "I don't know. It may be wild animals. Don't forget, we are not staying in some fucktown or rural house. "We are spending another night in this goddamn mountain, full of trees, wild animals, and beasts." She chuckled, going to her own room.

, everyone yells in unison. I stand up and walk out of the room. I walk down the stairs and towards the backyard. I halt when I see a door. I have never seen this door before. I open the door and see an office with books in every shelf. A chair and table with a laptop on it, newspaper beside the laptop. I walk to the shelf in the hopes I see an intriguing book. I see one title, 'What lies beyond'. Catchy title. I will take it. I grab it and the shelf opens. I couldn't see anything because it is dark and smell of dust.

One heartbeat sped up excitedly. The hidden baby pulsed softly beneath the surface, quieter than the others but unmistakably present. Only after reassuring himself we were alright did Sol finally look toward the rest of the room. Order and Chaos stood near the sanctuary windows waiting silently. Marcus looked marginally calmer now, mostly because Pamela still refused to let him leave unsupervised. Hunter looked exhausted by all royal bloodlines in existence. Honestly? Reasonable. Sol inhaled slowly. “The book that was taken…” He looked toward Order briefly. “…appears to be an Origin Book.”
