The magic within
She caught his eye and barked the only word that mattered:

And so they did.
The guild’s mages raised walls of flame, walls of stone, walls of force that buckled under the sheer weight of the enemy but bought precious seconds. Men and women died in those seconds, screaming as ash filled their lungs, but the rest fled into the high rocks. Killian never looked back. He couldn’t. He felt the vault’s heartbeat chasing them, steady, patient, knowing.
It wasn’t finished.
They reached it by nightfall — a ruin older than the kingdom itself, bones of stone jutting from the cliffs, arches crumbled, frescoes worn away. Once holy, now abandoned.
