The day before the interview, Sister Evelyn called Zara to the house.
“Zara, my child, I need you to run an errand for me,” she said gently. “Please take these documents for the new children to be registered. I hope you weren’t busy?”
“No, Sister,” Zara replied softly.
Sister Evelyn hesitated for a moment, then sighed. “By the way… I wanted to ask you something. Are you planning to ever love again?”
Zara scoffed bitterly. “No. I don’t think I can ever get into a relationship again. I’m fine the way I am.” After everything she had gone through in Dante’s house, trusting a man with her heart again felt impossible.
