“Rider, report to us first. Not to Rex. I’ll triple your pay—whatever you want. Just make sure you bring the results to me first!”
But Rider only laughed again, this time in cruel amusement. “This isn’t about money, ma’am. It’s about power. And I’m not suicidal. Crossing Rex Radford? That would be a cataclysm.”
Judith’s hand went limp, and the phone slipped from her grasp. Without another word, she turned and stormed out of the living room, heading straight for the music room, where she could hide in sound and shadows. But music couldn’t drown out her memories.
