“I kept apologizing for something that was never even true.” Lucian stared at me in silence. Then finally— very quietly— “I know.” There was so much regret in those two words that I could barely breathe. I looked at him again. And suddenly memories started hitting me one after another. Lucian furrowed his brow, his gaze fixed on Calista. He regretted his words. He would have preferred it if Calista were angry with him instead of ignoring him like this. It wasn’t fair to take out his frustrations on her. She had done everything he had commanded her to, despite his unreasonable demands. He knew it wasn’t Stella’s fault. He wanted to run to her and apologize, but he knew too well that the damage he had done was beyond words. He needs to think and plan things through and show her through his actions that he regrets what he said and did.

No one else will ever compare.” Could that have been part of the reason why Lucian never sought out another relationship? Was it because he truly couldn’t? For a moment, I’d been so caught up in the fear of my situation, that I nearly forgot about my previous shattered emotions with Lucian. Would he even know what’s happened since I left the palace? Hell, after I stormed out on him, would he even care? I became filled with regret and shame for not giving Lucian the chance to better explain himself. I fought back the tears that threatened to fill my eyes.
