The deafening sounds of war surrounded us while screams, growls, and crashing bodies blended into complete madness. Lucian attacked again. But he wasn't fighting like an Alpha. Some believed he lost his purpose after walking away from me. “No,” I whispered. “I did that…” My phone buzzed again. Another message: “You stole more than a wolf. Time to return what you broke.” I felt like screaming.

If an established Alpha recognizes our pack, then we would definitely stand on top of the wolf territories. Lucian looked at me like I was the key to everything he was searching for, almost obsessively. When Lucian reaches out to touch my hand, I don't flinch. His skin is warm against mine, and I feel none of the revulsion I expected. "You don't know me," I point out, though I don't pull away. "I know enough. I know you survived what would have broken lesser wolves. I know you turned rejection into strength, built an army from nothing." His thumb traces across my knuckles. "I know you're wasting on hiding in the shadows when you could be ruling in the light."

I thought before realizing that it was not actually my thought but my wolf was asking the question of me. ‘If you are so sure it is a good solution to the problem and the end result will far outweigh the pain you are feeling, why the tears?’ I sniffed and wiped my eyes with the back of my hands. ‘Something must have entered my eyes’, I replied. ‘Stop deceiving yourself. This is what you wanted, the best thing to do is to accept it and it's resultant consequence with dignity’, my wolf said. ‘Stop speaking as though, there is going to be a negative consequence because there isn't and stop trying to discourage me!’ I snapped at her.

“Please — I won’t tell anyone. Just let me go.” Lucian’s laugh was cold and cruel. He leaned in, nose brushing Riley’s neck, inhaling deeply. “Too late. Your scent is driving my wolf insane. You’re an omega. Unclaimed. And you walked straight into my territory like a gift.” Riley’s blood ran hot and cold at the same time. “I’m human. I’m not —” Lucian’s teeth sank into his neck without warning.

“But there is so much more going on now and if it all gets out the whole pack could be in danger.” I heard him sit forward in his chair. “What don't I know Leon? You have been so distant from me lately. What are you keeping from me?” I turned and walked to the mini fridge and grabbed out two beers, handing him one before I sat back down. “We think she's a Royal. Juvia. That is why we think someone is so egger to get her.” “Shit.” I heard him say before we both took long drinks. “She is also having trouble connecting with her wolf. Until she was 18 her wolf was locked in the dark, unable to see anything or communicate and there are times when she sleeps that her wolf gets locked up again.”

My control was good, but even I had my limits. She growled, pushing towards the surface, threatening a shift. “Ma’am, your eyes,” he whispered, head bowed.
