A week ago I would've thought the same thing. The silence stretched. Outside, the city lights continued flickering on one by one. Inside the office, the medical reports remained spread across the desk like evidence from a crime scene. Eventually Lucinda exhaled slowly. Then reached for the folder. "I'll start digging." That was why she was still here. She was always efficient and straight to the point. As Lucinda gathered the documents, I turned back toward the window. Far south of the city. Far beneath stone and steel. Lyra Hale was alive again.

I have been aware of your loyalty to your husband.” “Did you even see what was in the file that I sent you?” She continued. “You mean that file that you had a stranger drop at my feet, pretending that it was a mistake?” I raised one of my eyebrows. “To-ma-to, to-mah-to,” She replied, rolling her eyes. “My point here is that you got it. Did you happen to go through it?”

Chapter 16 Lyla's POV: The heels of my shoes clicked against the polished marble floors as I hurried toward the elevator, my mind drifting elsewhere. Working for Lucian meant two things: First, Marielle and I were bound to cross paths more times than I cared to imagine. Second, there was a very real chance I could end up dead—whether at his hands or those of his enemies. For now, all I could do was tread carefully and hope it would be enough. The elevator came into view, and I quickened my pace. Suddenly, I felt the jarring impact of another body against mine. “Damn it!” I hissed, my hand instinctively flying to my shoulder.

I shook my head at this, " No, I don't want to make her my enemy, there isn't even anything going on between Sir Maverick and I?” Rile snickered and that caught my attention, I glanced at her and it disappeared. "Lady Ivy, you are the only one he acts nice with, and you expect me not to think something is going on between you guys?"

"But as far as we know, there are no survivors other than Zelle and Raine... Is that you, Raine?” Lucinda pondered, “It can’t be Zelle, she lost her memories years ago. And she’s too precious~ She loves us~ Pft~” She shrugged as she sneered, “Well, it doesn’t matter. No one can beat me~” She smirked through her ears as she dashed to the loudest vibrations, as though someone was sprinting around... It can't be the other maids because they're on the opposite side of this path. That means it could be a hidden room!

“You’ll assist me. Sort these files. Paid business, signed contracts, terminated plans. You do know how to read, right?” Rachel’s hands stiffened as she accepted the stack. “Yes.” Linda leaned in. “Good. Because if you’re clueless and useless, I won’t be kind. And please don’t smile too much—some of us worked hard to get here.” She walked off without another word. She didn't understand why they thought so about her and hated the attention it brought when Linda said those comments

Hence, Tinsely grabbed her phone under her pillow and began to scroll through her phone. She looked to see any text from Lorenzo, but she found non and it made her —Sad, and her feelings more complicated. Meanwhile, Lucinda stood and walked over to the dressing mirror. She sat on the chair comfortably, then took the novel she saw on the table and she started to read the book. After a few minutes of comfortable silence, Lucinda looked aside to Tinsely and asked, "Are you going to work today?" Tinsely sighed deeply, dropping her phone under her pillow again as she forced a smile.

Instead, my stomach plummeted at the sight of the three letters glaring up at me - LUC. Lucinda? What was she doing leaving me heartfelt notes and...sweet nothings? The faint sound of rustling clothes made me glance toward the floor. There, sprawled across a mat, lay Lucinda herself. Her legs peeked out under the dress she wore, which had fallen open to reveal one smooth shoulder and the swell of her cleavage. I frantically averted my gaze, cursing my straying eyes. Get a grip, you idiot! This is Lucinda we're talking about.

"It seems that I might receive a position as a captain in the Royal army as soon as my strength reaches the necessary requirements." He then patted Lucinda's shoulder and went on his way. . . . . Sara entered the building right after Errol left. "This way." Lady Chen spoke, appearing on top of the stairs leading to the first floor. Lucinda hastened her steps and followed her. They passed many closed rooms and Lucinda's gaze lingered on one of them that had a transparent glass that occupied half of its door. Inside, Ruth was meditating in an environment full of runes. That action seemed to demand her full concentration as her brows were furrowed and sweat ran down her forehead.
