She took a step closer, her voice steady but filled with compassion, "Lucy, I'm here because I care about you. We all do. Something isn't right, and we want to help you." Lucy's laughter echoed through the room, a bitter sound that sent shivers down Darren's spine. "Help me? You can't help me. Nobody can. I don't need any of you. I just need Stanley." Maddie's eyes met Darren's, silently conveying her growing concern. She knew that Lucy's fixation on Stanley was a significant hurdle to overcome. I didn't know for what reason, but I was sure my ears weren't deceiving me.
