“Why did you leave me? I didn’t mean it. I don’t want to be alone.” The flames roared higher. A shadow moved inside them. Massive. A wolf. Its fur shimmered like liquid silver. Its eyes glowed white. Its teeth flashed sharp. “You are mine,” it growled, the sound rolling like thunder. I stepped back, water splashing around me. My chest heaved. “Mine?” Its voice wrapped around me, deeper than the whispers, stronger than my father’s rejection. “They rejected and cast you out. But I claim you. You carry my fire. Moonfire. You are not alone.”

Aria whispered, tears welling in her eyes. Lorian let out a howl—one filled with agony. Then, as if something was pulling him back, his body began to change. His claws slowly retracted. His bulging muscles shrank. The dark fur disappeared, fading one by one. And finally, before them— Lorian was himself again. He collapsed onto his knees, gasping for breath. Aria rushed to him, wrapping her arms around him tightly. "Lorian!" Lorian trembled in her embrace. His body was still burning, his heartbeat hammering like a war drum.

I nearly choked on my spit when he said that. “What?” was the only word I could muster. “I’m a Lycan… I have pathokinesis. I can feel your feelings and sometimes thoughts.” I centered myself trying to control whatever feelings I was projecting to make him pick up on that, and I took my hoodie off, holding my head high as his eyes swept over my body, my scars. Slowly, he handed me the daggers then took his shirt off revealing sweeping scars down his back and sides. Relief flooded me and he blinked hard.

Claire's POV There was only one person I knew that bear that name. I should have turned around right then. I seize one of the guards by his collar, my grip unyielding as I pull him closer, my eyes locked fiercely onto his.
