Lyra felt the second heartbeat inside her pulse stronger, syncing with the rhythm of the glowing rift.
“Something’s pulling me,” she whispered, gripping her wrist.
“That’s the bond,” Cael said. “Don’t fight it.”
Lyra’s heart raced. The silver light spilled outward, threading across the clouds. The crack widened—slowly, painfully—like a wound stretching open. A low hum filled the ridge, deep enough to shake the stones beneath their feet.
Then the light twisted.
It spiraled into a single point, forming a blinding sphere that hovered above the ridge. Lyra shielded her eyes—but she couldn’t look away.
