A fridge that probably had an opinion about me. I found a glass in the cabinet, filled it at the sink, and froze. Voices. Coming from somewhere down the hallway. Mason's, low and rough. And a woman's. High and breathy. "—can't believe you made me wait," the woman was saying. "My friends are already at the club." "Then go." Mason's voice was flat. Dismissive. "I didn't ask you to stop by." "You never ask. That's kind of your thing, isn't it?"

Levrae I had too much to drink. Not enough to embarrass myself in front of everyone, just enough to make the world feel softer around the edges. Those two have become my closest friends. Alex is the level-headed one out of the two. He’s always telling me that I’m an idiot, mostly because I am, and then he follows it up with good advice. To most people, though, he seems more like a free-spirit because of his dimples and killer grin. The amount of times I’ve had a girl come up to me just to ask if my “super muscular Latino friend” is single is honestly astounding. I don’t know how he isn’t taken – lord knows there’s a line a mile long of girls waiting for their chance.

Once mother says her goodbyes to all her childhood friends, we leave. "What do you think about May, you guys were together the whole time." Mother ask, looking over at me. "She's nice." May and I click on a friend level. We both have something in common that we can talk to each other about, something we both can understand. Neither one of us is looking to claim and mark someone as our mate. We exchange numbers and I'm sure we'll hang out again, but as friends. "Do you think she's pretty?" Mother asks smiling.

Well, that's that. I sat on my bed and played on my phone, liking every video or picture I came across on F******k. Though the friends I have on F******k are mostly my high school classmates, I have never spoken to any of them. I'm just a sarsey nerd who loves my uncle so much to pay heed to any other. Compared to me, Mark is a social butterfly. I'm not introverted. I just like staying to myself, if you get what I'm saying.

I’m pretty sure it does mean friend. So why is he calling me mate, if it means friend? I never had a friend before. I don’t deserve a friend. What a weird bunch of people.
