I said in a sickly sweet voice . Her smile dropped . Good ! " Meerab , behave ! She is my cousin, " Saad warned . " I know Saad but didn't you hear her " I look down at her " we were best friends " I used the same high pitched voice . " Aren't we ?? I ask . " Of course, " Myra said but I could see the bitterness in her eyes. " Then can't a best friend joke " I wiggle my eyebrows . " Of course " she said again and I gave a look to Saad .

Right from when we were both kids,my sister was the perfect daughter, she always did what was expected of her when it was expected of her and as a result was everyone's favorite, but I didn't mind, in fact loved it, because with everyone's attention on her, I was free to do what I wanted whenever I wanted. One day when I was fourteen I came in here with the boy I was dating and a bunch of our other friends, and one of the kids dared us all to go off deeper into the woods by ourselves and bring back a kill. Somehow I got lost and stumbled into the fayronas territory. I would have had my soul sucked out but I made a bargain to give them two other souls

“How can my mate… my mate… be my enemy? No, no, this can’t be happening. The Moon God wouldn’t do this to me!” Tears welled in her eyes, blurring her vision. She turned and ran to her room, collapsing onto her bed, burying her face in the soft covers as sobs wracked her body. “I searched for my mate… my whole life, I searched,” she choked out between cries. “And now he’s here, standing before me… but I can’t accept him. I can’t, because he’s my enemy. He came here to kill, not to claim me.”

I said to him, he probably hadn't noticed that yet. “We literally grew up in the same house and she was one of the first to support me when I became Alpha so we do have a a special relationship,” he said honestly, I was happy that he had her support. True to what she had said earlier Maya acted like his older sister. “I am very grateful to have met someone like her in my lifetime,” I said honestly, with the type of relationship I have had with people, she felt like a safe place. “I am glad you don't feel so alone anymore,” he said, planting a kiss on my cheek as I ate.

I asked again, "What is my connection with him? Is he my best friend? Cousin? Brother?" Pressing his lips together, he let out the word, "Mate!"

"Hahahahaha so what. Can't we use a friend as our defense, and you know my group has only basketball players although I am friendly with everyone but not that close to anyone other than my teammates, so it would be a great thing if you become my friend, and on top of that you don't have friends, I know you said you don't want to make friends but everyone needs them, everyone need at least one friend to rely on." Michael said sympathetically as he was again worried about this guy's mental health.

I mean it's literally the worst day of my life. I publicly embarrassed my best friend and I got a male mate as reward for bad behavior, so yeah I can't forget that day. "Yeah, that's the one."

My friend-mate. "Friend-mate." Breyona nodded, "I like that." "I think I also earn the title of friend-mate." Mason huffed, giving us each a puppy dog look. The two of us continued giggling and brought Mason into our hug. "Well, seeing as I invented friend-mates, I declare you can have multiple." I nodded, giving Mason a grin. "I second that motion." Breyona grinned, grabbing her car keys. "Don't be out too late!" Breyona's Mom called from the kitchen. "And good luck finding your mate, honey!"

I bite my lip and try to think of the perfect mate. "She is special if she puts up with you". Brian laughs and Liam joins him. My best friends are so immature. Smiling in satisfaction I lay my head back and think of my mate.
