“It's Mabel. She's almost here.” I was already moving. I handed over my glass with a server and strolled outside. The night breeze tousled my hair as I slowed at the grand terrace. More guests arrived. Cameras flashed, their lights blinding. Then a familiar convoy pulled up. A valet opened the door, and my breath caught in my throat. And then Mabel Parker stepped out in a red satin gown and hair styled in vintage waves like she’d just walked out of a 1950s silver screen.

I muttered. It was a thread. A thin, frayed one—but I’d take it. I had had enough. Back in the car, I pulled out my laptop and started digging. Zane’s POV "We should visit your parents more often." River water still clung to her hair. I felt the cool strands against my neck as I carried her up the trail. The falls roared behind us. My boots sank into soft earth where our bodies had pressed the grass flat. Two pairs of shoes still sat on the cliff. I did not go back for them. "I want to bring flowers," Mabel said. With the journey being like this, i wondered what the north would look like. Would it be a village or an urbanized city? Would it be rurally local or developed at least with social amenities. I kept on wondering to my self. “Hey, you ever been up north before?” I asked Mabel casually and she shrugged. “A couple of times I think, last year when we went on a hunting expedition. Alpha Alex and thirty other soldiers, we were hunting down wild bears.” I looked at her, almost exited. “Wild bears? So you left the usual pack surroundings and went up north to hunt wild bears?” I kept on asking questions and I felt Mabel would really feel I was crazy.
