she told me in the same disapproving tone she had used with me last night when we returned from the forest, all battered and carrying Maya.
"I'm sorry, ma," I said, my head bent low. I couldn't even feel indignation, as I usually felt whenever Mabel shows how disappointed she was in me.
"That's new," Mabel replied in a cutting tone. She pushed past me and walked into Maya's room. I was left standing there at a loss, trying to remember why I had come up in the first place.
Almost as soon as she had gone in, Mabel's head popped back out.
"There's a young man walking around in the forest, probably searching for us. She uses the signs of the Sulfur Hands, but he's trailed by many Corrupted. I ne
