He’s back on his feet, and even though he’s limping there’s murder in his eyes. I kick him in the stomach, and he grunts. I kick him again, and he falls to the ground. Out of the corner of my eye, I see the woman getting to her feet. She lunges at me, but I step to the side and grab her arm before she can slice at me. She’s fast, but I’m stronger. I twist her arm, and she drops her sword. “No!” the man shouts. “Don’t kill her.” I pause. My heart’s hammering, and I don’t know what to do. I’m not a killer. I don’t want to be a killer.

Kael finally faced him. “I know enough.” “Then tell me.” “No.” Kael said. The word landed between them. Adrian's hands curled inside his pockets. “She almost killed that creature,” he said. “Did she?” Kael asked sarcastically. Adrian's eyes narrowed. Kael held his gaze. The question stayed there. “Did she?”

Elder Marrow came closer, making it worse. “Make your final statement,” he said. And for the first time since the massacre, I raised my head in despair. I said shakily, “I didn't kill my family.” I did not cower as I looked straight into Alpha Cian's eyes and said passionately, "You will regret this. I promise you, I will make you regret this for the rest of your life." Finally, Alpha Cian looked into my eyes. There was something there as his eyes flickered and then turned to ice.

Heart Starter was wall-to-wall people when the bell over the door sounded and Lexie glanced up to see Killian walk in with his familiar loose-hipped stride. She wondered if she'd ever get tired of watching at him. Broad shoulders and narrow hips defined his muscular frame, a body she loved running her hands over and feeling the hard planes and sculpted muscles. He wore his thick black hair a little longer than when they'd first met, but on him it looked good. A square jaw and high cheekbones defined the masculinity of his face. Altogether, he was one damn fine package.
