she asked, disappointment coloring her tone. Ada didn't even attempt to justify it—her love for the animal was that absolute. Mirena decided not to dwell on it. "Alright then," she said, her voice calm and resolved. "Let's win Minho his mansion." With a graceful swipe of her finger, she activated the glowing digital board between them. "I'll give you the first move." Alexander's lips curved into a faint, sardonic smile. "How generous of you. I won't refuse." His hand moved with deliberate precision as he made his opening move.

He shoved it down, silenced it, and chose the plan over the fear. With the reckless certainty of a man who could not accept defeat, Harvey moved his first piece onto the board.

On the ground on my side, I had the red cresent pack and on the other side, Klaus had his men all over the place. I played first. “ I move the rook” and these the piece was moved. “I move the pawn” Klaus said. Then it was moved. I looked at him and he smiled. He was going to block me. “I move the bishop” I said and they carried it to the spot. “Move the knight” he said staring at me. I smiled to myself. If Klaus was going to chess me around he might as well not win this game. “I move my king” I said and it was done. I waited for Klaus to follow me to block me and he did just that. Everyone looked in awe of what would happen next. I knew that was the time for me to make my move. I moved my

For the first time in years, I felt the same prayer burning at the back of my throat, tearing through the shield of control I had always carried. The game had begun in a blink. And this time, she had the first move.

Lysandra had responded with swiftness and grace, her moves executed with a precision that hinted at her mastery.
