Romans & histoires Making First Move

Harlequin spoke and a black halo appeared in his head, hovering above was a glowing white cross. And spreading in the ground, all toward the Grand Arch Wizard was an alternating black and white tile, the chess board of the hero. And immediately his pieces assembled launching their first move to the enemy. “White moves first,” Harlequin proclaimed.

》》Jason Dutton《《 I moved my rook three blocks to the right, finalising my victory. "Check mate." My opponent knocked over his king in disappointment and gave me a handshake. The disapproval was written all over his face as he got up and left but he knew there was no point in disapproving, my victory was final. There was no way he could change it. It wasn't his fault I was so good at winning. This is fun. "We have our finalists! Jason Dutton and Adrian Markham! The final shall commence straight after the 20 minute break."

“Alexander, you need to be careful. If you make all these moves at once, they’ll suspect. They’ll know you’re onto something bigger.” I narrowed my eyes, my fingers tightening around the glass. “What do you suggest?” “Start with one move,” she said simply. “One. Let them think they can control the fallout. And as soon as they try to recoil, as soon as they scramble to fix it.” She paused, a playful smirk dancing on her lips. “That’s when you strike again.” I stared at her for a moment, then nodded. She was right. If I made all my plays now, the recoil might be too much for me to handle.

Everybody in the pack already knows it so why not the witches as well? We square off with each other and make a slight bow to each other as all of our spectators of both species quiet down. Apparently they are interested in the outcome of this as we receive their full attention. Smiling slightly, I get into my fighting stance and wait for him to make the first move. Typically, the person that makes the first move finds it easier to stay on the offensive so as long as they do not lose their rhythm they have no problems winning. I, on the other hand, like to start off as the underdog and show everybody that it is possible to come back and win no matter what.

"If you have any requirements, can you finish them all at once?" Looking at this woman's anger, Samuel knew that he had basically achieved his goal. He put away his shameless smile and suddenly became unusually serious, "Since we will decide the winner with one move and I have let you make one move first, naturally, I should set a rule on this. The rule is very simple. If I can still stand here after taking one move from you, then you will lose." "On the other hand, if I can't stand up, you will win. What do you think?"

He didn't expect Celeste to know how to play chess too. Trevor looked at Celeste. "You wanna go first?" The player who started first typically held a strategic advantage. Upon hearing that, Celeste made the first move. Trevor followed suit with his move. In the beginning, they both played cautiously, not giving anything away. They didn't talk either. Celeste focused solely on the chessboard, hardly sparing a glance at Trevor across from her. After a while, both Harry and Brandon realized that Celeste's playstyle was just like her personality—calm and measured.

I said in a monotone voice, settling into the seat across from him. A ghost of a smirk played on his lips before disappearing just as quickly. Without looking up, he nudged a piece forward. “Your turn.” I rolled my sleeves up to my elbows, already recognizing the challenge in his voice. He was being his usual self—dictating the pace before I even agreed to play. He’d already decided we were playing before I even sat down. “I don’t recall agreeing to a game.” I grazed a piece, considering my next move. “…You always take the center first.” I completed, moving the pieces.

I open my laptop and draft a message to my new allies, outlining the next steps, the first move that will ripple outward and force the board to adjust around me. The game hasn’t just moved forward. It has re-centered on me.

The one that always drove me insane. “Game on.,” she whispered, sliding into the seat across from me. She kicked off her heels as she reached for the white side of the board. “Ladies first,” I said as I took a sip from my glass of whiskey and handed her the other glass. The first few moves were cautious and strategic till my fingers curled around her rook and it fell off. I leaned back, without breaking eye contact. ”Your move” She hesitated for a brief moment then with her chin lifted defiantly, she unbuttoned her coat, slid it down her shoulders, and laid it over the armrest.

“Just flip the coin for color, old man. Save the sass for when you actually win.” He laughs and flips the coin. I call it as tails. It lands on heads, and he grins, making his first move. That sets the tone for the first game, with Simon winning even quicker than usual. He topples my king with his bishop and gives me a look. “See? Inevitable.” “That was just a warm up.” “Sure, sure. The next one will be different, right?” It’s not. Half way into it, it becomes pretty clear that I’m going to lose this one too. Simon moves his knight and raises an eyebrow.
