It’s the Game of Hunt.” A grin spreads across his face. “Each team will search the resort grounds for hidden treasures. Think of it like a scavenger hunt—but not so easy. Clues have been carefully planted, and only the team that finds all their assigned treasures wins.” A chorus of whoas rises from the group. “Sounds tough,” someone says. Daryl nods, still grinning. “There’s just one small problem,” he says, tapping his clipboard.

Maya and I were sitting near the central tables when Anthony and June appeared, clapping their hands to gather attention. “Everyone!” Anthony called out. “We have an activity planned for tonight.” Excited murmurs spread quickly. June stepped forward, smiling brightly. “Tonight’s game is called Find the Crest. It’s a treasure-seeking challenge through the forest.” My stomach tightened slightly. Anthony continued. “Both Ravencrest and Northsprings will participate. Crests will be hidden throughout the woods. Your objective is to locate as many as possible while avoiding opposing team members.”

My growling stomach always drags me back to the present. Today I’ll have to search more houses—if I don’t find enough food, I’ll weaken, and then I’ll be an easy target. I start moving.
