Maybe her mother would step forward, take her in her arms, wipe the blood from her face, and whisper,
"It’s a mistake, sweetheart. Come home."
But her mother didn’t move. Her eyes were cold. Unforgiving. Like she was looking at something vile crawling across the ground.
“She’s not one of us.” Alpha Cian’s voice broke the silence. Sharp, heavy, and final.
“She doesn’t belong to this pack.” He turned toward Maddox, her father. “And as Beta, it is your duty to protect the pack.”
Maddox didn’t hesitate. His voice was firm, echoing across the woods. “Yes, Alpha. I love my pack… and I’ll do anything to keep it safe.”
