CHAPTER ELEVEN “Amara, you forgot about this.” Amethyst handed me a mask. The mask would only cover half of the wearer’s face, including the forehead and the area surrounding the eyes. It was a masquerade mask. It was shaped like those butterfly wings. It was crafted from silver, with crystal beads designed at its corners and a black sun with four rays at the upper center. It has a lace at both ends. “Who owns it?” Amethyst asked curiously.

Masaru’s distinctive voice roared, coming from the sky. We tilted our heads up and were stunned to see a pair of demonic figures in the sky, standing atop a small cloud. “We finally caught you, rat.” The gray-skinned one was Masaru, recognizing that gravel-gargling voice. He had a fierce face, sharp fangs, electrifying hair, and two horns. He wore a tattered dark-green skirt tied with a long red sash with a pair of massive Japanese drums hung on his waist and held a small mace in each hand.

Darren continued to explain as we looked at our masks. I haven’t been to many gatherings, but I doubt others would go so far as to provide custom masks. I glanced at the purple half-face mask Valter was given and the swirls of gold and black decorated it. I then looked at the more delicate purple eye mask in mine and Delilah’s hands with the gold details and purple stones to make a tiara effect. They are gorgeous, and I will keep mine forever, especially if I find my mate tonight. The Madonie pack house was lit up and decorated in rich purple, gold, and black to match the ball’s theme. As we exited the limo, Darren led Valter to the other entrance, where all the males gathered.

But my thoughts divulge as I finally notice his mask. I gasp. The mask is an eerie matt black sheet of armor like metal that covers half of his skull. It appears modeled to fit his perfectly symmetrical face and pressed artfully across the bridge of his nose. But what stands out the most are two golden ram horns that protrude from the top corners. They curve backwards to sit where I assume to be just below his ears. What a dreadful reminder of the fact I still stand in the company of the devil. A man that has a distorted face, who has killed his parents, his brother and four of his future wives!

The Masquerade mask was Harriet's special mask, a white snake mask with one eye hole on the right side. "Actually, this is my mother's mask," said Harriet quietly. She then smiled and held up another mask box. Harriet showed it to Liam who was still furrowing his brows at her previous words and opened the box. Another white mask appeared in their vision. It was a white wolf mask with golden stripes around its eyes. Harriet smiled proudly showing the mask design. It was the one she ordered yesterday, which turned out to be perfect and ready at just the right time. "This is for me?" Liam asked.

I breathed quietly. Maria suddenly stepped closer holding something in her hands. Before I could react, she carefully fastened a silver mask across my face. I blinked in surprise. The mask curved elegantly around my eyes, decorated with tiny silver stones and moon shaped patterns. “What is this?” Maria smiled. “The Alpha must find you tonight.” I stared at her blankly. “What?” She giggled softly while adjusting the mask. “At Tombstone’s anniversary ball, every unmated lady wears a mask during her first celebration.”
